GORAKHPUR, Sept. 8 -- With the Saryu rising by around 5 cm an hour, the flood threat has intensified in riverside villages of Deoria and Maharajganj districts. As the river continued to swell, villagers in vulnerable areas began moving to safer places on Monday. According to Central Water Commission, the Saryu was flowing 53 cm above the danger mark at Turtipar. The flood threat has returned to Deoria, with the river continuing to rise in the Bhagalpur area. Its water level reached 64.54 metres, 53 cm above the danger mark, raising concerns of flooding in villages along the riverbank.
