Revenue Lekhpal caught taking bribe in Bahraich
Bahraich, May 28 -- The Gonda anti-corruption team arrested a revenue Lekhpal posted in Bahraich district on Tuesday night, while he was allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs.10,000. The operation was led by anti-corruption inspector Dhananjay Singh.
The accused, identified as Umesh Kumar Pathak, was posted as revenue Lekhpal in Sarai Mehrabad under Mahasi Tehsil. Following his arrest, the anti-corruption team brought him to Dehat Kotwali police station, where a case was registered against him under the Prevention of Corruption Act. Further legal proceedings are underway.
According to officials, the action was initiated following a complaint lodged by Dulare Yadav, a resident of Tamachpur village, under the Ramgaon police station area. The complainant alleged that he required a "Kurra" (land record extract) related to agricultural land registered in his grandfather's name for use in an ongoing court case. For this purpose, he had approached Lekhpal Umesh Kumar Pathak. Dulare Yadav alleged that the Lekhpal had initially taken Rs.70,000 from him on the assurance of completing the work, but despite receiving the money, the document was not provided. Later, the accused allegedly demanded an additional Rs.20,000 to process the remaining work.htc...
