Retired cop duped of Rs.4.16 lakh in pension scam, FIR lodged
LUCKNOW, July 9 -- A recently retired police officer from Balrampur became a victim of cyber fraud in Lucknow's PGI area, losing Rs.4.16 lakh to a scammer who posed as a pension facilitator.
According to the FIR registered at PGI police station, the victim, retired sub-inspector Gyanendra Kumar, received a call on July 5 from an unknown individual who introduced himself as a pension officer. The caller, identified as Akhilesh Srivastava, convinced Kumar to download a link, claiming it was necessary to process his retirement pension.
Trusting the caller, Kumar entered his sensitive banking details through the provided link. Moments later, he received a notification that Rs.4.16 lakh had been withdrawn from his account. Shocked by the incident, he immediately rushed to the SBI main branch in Hazratganj and then proceeded to the PGI police station to file a formal complaint.
"Police have registered a case under Section 66D of the Information Technology (Amendment) Act, 2008," stated the FIR. Since the incident, the accused's mobile number has been switched off, and investigators have begun tracing digital footprints with assistance from the cyber unit....
