Retd Raj Bhavan employee killed in hit-and-run
LUCKNOW, March 20 -- A 65-year-old retired employee of the Raj Bhavan died after being hit allegedly by an unidentified vehicle in Ashiana area here on Wednesday night, triggering protests by his family who held a road blockade demanding action.
Ramesh Chaudhary, a resident of Sector-H in Ashiana, had gone to buy vegetables and was returning home on his bicycle around 8pm, his son Abhishek Chaudhary said. When he reached near a clinic, an unidentified vehicle hit him, throwing him several feet away and leaving him injured.
Passersby alerted police, who rushed Chaudhary to Lok Bandhu Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.
The victim's family members later reached the clinic along with police to check CCTV footage. Alleging non-cooperation, the family claimed that those present there refused to allow access to cameras. Angered over it, the family staged a protest and blocked the road. Police pacified the protesters. Inspector, Ashiana, Chhatrapal Singh said efforts were underway to identify the vehicle involved with the help of CCTV footage from nearby areas. htc...
