LUCKNOW, July 22 -- The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet on Tuesday approved a proposal to establish 'Indian Knowledge Tradition Promotion Research Chairs' in eligible state universities and colleges, along with guidelines for implementing the scheme. Higher education minister Yogendra Upadhyay said the initiative aims to integrate India's intellectual, cultural and philosophical heritage with higher education and promote research on contributions of Indian philosophers and scientists. The research chairs will be established in state universities and colleges that are at least 50 years old and have more than 5,000 students. A budgetary provision of Rs.5 crore has been made for the scheme in 2026-27. Each research chair will receive a one-time grant of up to Rs.2 crore for five years. CSR contributions, donations and other grants may also be used to support the initiative. It is aligned with NEP 2020 and will encourage research.
