Rescued from bonded labour, minor reunited with family
Meerut, June 29 -- A 13-year-old boy, who was among the 12 people rescued by police from an alleged bonded labour racket at a disposable leaf bowl and paper plate manufacturing facility in Mandi village of Muzaffarnagar district earlier this week, was on Sunday reunited with his family after nearly 18 months. The emotional reunion took place at the child welfare committee office in Muzaffarnagar.
Following the rescue, the boy was initially placed under the care of the child welfare committee after authorities were unable to trace his family. According to CWC chairperson Reena Panwar, the boy was sent to the Meerut observation home as no information about his relatives was available at the time. Subsequent efforts by the Muzaffarnagar police and district administration helped identify and locate the family, who were called to Muzaffarnagar on Sunday. The rescued teenager, a resident of Delhi's Narela area, broke down as soon as he saw his father. During the meeting, the boy recounted the traumatic experiences he allegedly endured while he was confined to the factory. He alleged he had been held captive for nearly 18 months and forced to work against his will.
According to the minor, he was beaten and subjected to torture whenever he resisted and was provided only dry rotis for food....
