KANPUR, Oct. 25 -- A 26-year-old former employee of a special school and rehabilitation centre in Kanpur's Kakadeo, who was dismissed from service, has been arrested for allegedly sending the father of a former student a video showing her in an objectionable situation, in an apparent attempt to defame the institution, police said. The video was reportedly recorded last year, when the girl was 17. Vipin Adani, who was dismissed from the centre in May this year over allegations of financial embezzlement and other irregularities, reportedly sent the footage via WhatsApp to the student's father around 3pm on Friday. The video featured the student, who is deaf and mute, and was recorded last year when she was 17. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Central Atul Srivastava said the incident was captured on CCTV and the accused had kept a copy of the footage without the school management's knowledge. He allegedly circulated it after losing his job. "Adani wanted to defame the institution," Srivastava said. Following the complaint lodged by the father-who expressed deep concern for his daughter's safety-Kakadeo police launched an investigation, examining the centre's digital video recorder (DVR) and CCTV system. Authorities successfully traced the mobile number used to send the video, which led them to Adani, who was working at a separate rehabilitation centre in Kidwai Nagar. According to police, he allegedly recorded the footage after noticing the girl in an objectionable situation and kept it to himself without informing anyone at the centre. Police said the video also featured a young man who was studying at the same centre. A resident of Kakadeo, he has also been taken into custody and was undergoing a medical examination. He will be produced before a court thereafter. His age has not been disclosed. The police have invoked the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Information Technology (IT) Act, given that the victim was a minor when the footage was recorded.
