Ration card holders to get SMS alerts on foodgrain delivery
Lucknow, July 16 -- Ration card holders in Uttar Pradesh will soon receive SMS alerts informing them about the availability of foodgrains at their designated fair price shops and the dates for distribution, food and civil supplies minister Manoj Kumar Pandey said on Wednesday.
Highlighting the department's achievements at a press conference here, he said the new initiative would be rolled out from this month only under which SMS messages would be sent to all ration card beneficiaries.
He said the move would help beneficiaries plan their visits to ration shops and reduce waiting.
The minister said a system was also being proposed to ensure doorstep delivery of ration to elderly and disabled beneficiaries living alone. He said 7,534 Annapurna Bhawans had been completed and 4,226 were under construction.He said eligible beneficiaries were being identified to fill the 47 lakh vacant units in the state.Pandey said 62.30 lakh metric tonnes of paddy had been procured from 10.53 lakh farmers during 2025-26, exceeding the target by 103.83 per cent.
