Gorakhpur, April 4 -- Among the four teenagers feared drowned in the Rapti river near the Mirzapur pontoon bridge under Khorabar police station limits on Wednesday, the bodies of three were recovered after an extensive 39-hour search operation on Friday morning. The body of one of the deceased was recovered on Thursday. The incident has left residents of Khorabar and nearby localities under the Cantonment police station area in deep grief. According to police officials, the incident occurred on Wednesday evening when a group of nine friends had gone to the riverbank to shoot social media reels and perform bicycle stunts. After filming, they entered the river to bathe. Four of them ventured into deep waters and were swept away by the strong current. The deceased have been identified as Vivek Nishad (15), Aman alias Veeru (14), Gagan Paswan (15), and Aniket Yadav (13). Station house officer (SHO) of Khorabar, Sudhanshu Singh, confirmed that the bodies have been sent for postmortem examination and further legal proceedings are underway. Police officials said that one of the boys, Rajkaran, managed to swim back to safety and alerted local residents, who immediately informed authorities. District Disaster Management Officer Gautam Gupta stated, "Search teams were deployed immediately after receiving information. However, the operation had to be paused due to poor visibility and was resumed on Thursday. One body was recovered on Thursday evening, while the remaining three were recovered after 39 hours of continuous effort." Personnel from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and local police carried out the search operation. The presence of bicycles, slippers, and clothes on the riverbank had initially indicated that the teenagers were feared drowned....
