Raj high court orders mandatory body camera use in search operations
Jodhpur, May 10 -- The Rajasthan high court has directed that search and seizure operations in serious criminal cases be conducted using body-worn cameras, while ordering a re-investigation in an NDPS case after finding serious inconsistencies between the police record and video material placed before it.
The order was passed on Friday by justice Farjand Ali in a petition filed by Gokal Ram, who was arrested in connection with an alleged recovery of more than five quintals of doda post from a vehicle intercepted by Police Station Luni in November 2025.
The Court noted, "What is recited in the parcha kayami and the seizure memo appears to be in stark contradiction to what is depicted in the video placed before this Court. If such video evidence is found to be authentic, it would prima facie indicate that the very foundation of the prosecution case, as reflected in the FIR, may be doubtful."
Holding that the issue went to the root of the prosecution case, the Court said, "This is not a case where further investigation would suffice. What is required is a reinvestigation from the very inception."
The Court directed the Commissioner of Police to entrust the re-investigation to an independent officer not below the rank of Additional Superintendent of Police who was not connected with the earlier probe....
