Lakhimpur Kheri, July 1 -- The planned special safari services couldn't take place at Dudhwa National Park on Tuesday as heavy monsoon showers brought the curtain down on an otherwise record-breaking tourism season. Authorities had made a special arrangement to operate safari services despite the park's weekly closure to accommodate tourists on the final day, but incessant rain in the area forced the cancellation. The season, extended till June 30 because of the delayed monsoon, ended on a high note with record tourist footfall and revenue. According to Jagdish R, deputy director, Dudhwa Tiger Reserve (DTR), domestic tourist arrivals rose 31.71% from 57,409 to 75,615, while foreign visitors increased 23.60% from 644 to 796. Tourism revenue jumped 58.71% to Rs.2.97 crore from Rs.1.87 crore last season. Memorable sightings of resident tigers, one-horned rhinos, swamp deer, sloth bears and other wildlife made the season one of Dudhwa's most successful, Jagdish R. said, thanking tourists, guides, staff and drivers for their support.
