PRAYAGRAJ, Aug. 24 -- The Prayagraj Division of Indian Railways collected more than Rs 4.51 crore in fines during an intensive ticket-checking campaign conducted between August 1 and August 20, targeting ticketless, irregular, and rule-violating passengers across trains and railway stations. According to railway officials, action was taken against a total of 48,481 passengers during the 20-day drive, resulting in the recovery of Rs 4,51,36,868 as penalty and excess fare charges. The highest number of cases involved passengers traveling irregularly. A total of 25,647 passengers were found violating travel rules, from whom the Railways recovered Rs 1,98,31,952. In addition, 20,611 passengers were caught traveling without valid tickets, leading to the collection of Rs 2,33,20,347 in fines. Railway authorities said the campaign was aimed at curbing ticketless travel and ensuring compliance with railway regulations.
