Lucknow, June 23 -- A large-scale enforcement drive against electricity theft and power defaulters was carried out across multiple areas of Lucknow on Monday, resulting in several FIRs, disconnections, and intensified surveillance operations. In several cases, electricity supply was disconnected on the spot and legal action was initiated under relevant provisions of the Electricity Act, 2003. In the Amausi operational area, a special "morning raid" campaign was launched under a pre-identified high-loss feeder strategy. Out of 62 premises inspected, four consumers were found allegedly engaged in electricity theft through meter bypassing. The estimated unauthorised consumption in these cases ranged between approximately 2.2 kW to nearly 6 kW per connection. Chief engineer LESA Amausi zone said enforcement action will continue in the area in a phased manner to curb recurring theft incidents. In the Gomti Nagar zone, a special drive was conducted during the summer season to ensure stable and safe electricity supply amid rising demand against power theft through katia. Teams inspected slum settlements in Govind Vihar Colony and Radhapuram Colony, covering nearly 300 huts in total. In a separate action near Ajay Nagar under the Gomti Nagar substation network, vigilance teams conducted detailed meter and premises inspections. One consumer was found allegedly using electricity through unauthorised means, and departmental proceedings have been initiated for legal action and penalty assessment. A joint enforcement team in the Jankipuram area carried out a morning raid at Godiyan Ka Purwa village under the 33/11 kV GPR A substation network. Out of 52 premises inspected, three cases of direct cable hooking and meter bypassing were detected, with total unauthorised load estimated at over 12 kW.
