Rai distances himself from document governingcounting process
AYODHYA, July 8 -- Former general secretary of Sri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, Champat Rai, distanced himself from a key document governing the counting process, in a letter to the SIT probing the alleged irregularities.
He stated that he disagreed with the "joint guidelines for the counting process", claiming the document did not bear his signature despite allegedly carrying the signatures of Trustee Anil Mishra and the then State Bank of India (Ayodhya branch) chief manager Govind Mishra.
HT has accessed Rai's detailed written statement to the SIT probing the alleged embezzlement during donation counting at the Ram temple.
Rai rejected the key document cited in the probe and placed responsibility on the SBI for lapses in security. "I came to know about it only on June 13, 2026," he mentioned in the statement....
