LUCKNOW, Sept. 9 -- Congress leader Rahul Gandhi arrived in his parliamentary constituency on Tuesday for a two-day visit. The visit comes amid Gandhi's continued focus on issues concerning students, governance and public accountability. He has also been consistently targeting the government over the electoral process. Rahul Gandhi, who is the Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Lok Sabha, landed at Lucknow's Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport in the afternoon, where he was welcomed by Uttar Pradesh Congress president Ajai Rai and senior party leaders, including PL Punia, Deepak Singh, Kishori Lal Sharma, Syed Asim Waqar and other leaders. Waqar, a former AIMIM spokesperson, recently joined the Congress in New Delhi. While leaving the airport, Gandhi interacted with a few passengers waiting there. He then left for Rae Bareli, where he is scheduled to meet local traders. The Congress in Rae Bareli arranged welcome programmes for Gandhi at several places along the route from Lucknow, including Shivgarh, Maharajganj and Amawan. Party workers welcomed him with garlands and drum beats at various places. Gandhi will meet bullion traders, representatives of the Chemists Association, newly elected office-bearers of the Bar Association and sportspersons at the MP residence in Bhuemau, Rae Bareli district Congress president Pankaj Tiwari said. On Wednesday, Gandhi will meet party workers and local residents before dedicating several development projects to the people. He will then chair a meeting of the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA), where he will review the progress of ongoing projects, Uttar Pradesh Congress spokesperson Anshu Awasthi said.
