LUCKNOW, July 1 -- A female sanitation worker at the district hospital in Rae Bareli was suspended on Tuesday after a viral video purportedly showed her repeatedly kicking and abusing a mentally ill young man inside the hospital premises, prompting the Uttar Pradesh government to order immediate action. The video purportedly shows the sanitation worker kicking the youth on his head, face and shoulders while the patient, apparently unaware of his surroundings due to his mental condition, offers no resistance. A security guard seen standing nearby did not intervene during the incident. It could not be ascertained when the video was recorded. Taking serious note of the viral video, principal secretary, medical health and family welfare, Amit Kumar Ghosh directed strict action against those responsible, saying any form of mistreatment or inhumane behaviour towards patients was unacceptable. Acting on the directions, chief medical superintendent Dr Pushpendra Kumar suspended sanitation worker Pinky with immediate effect. Departmental disciplinary proceedings have also been initiated against her under the Uttar Pradesh Government Servants (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1999, for allegedly violating the Government Servants Conduct Rules, 1956. During the suspension period, she has been attached to the AYUSH OPD of the district hospital. A three-member inquiry committee has been constituted to conduct a time-bound departmental probe.
