MEERUT, July 29 -- A day after the Moradabad divisional commissioner's court granted interim relief to the Mohammad Ali Jauhar University, staying the Rampur Development Authority's order for the proposed demolition of 38 buildings at the university until the next hearing, the court on Tuesday fixed August 3 as the next date of hearing in the case. The matter was listed for hearing on Tuesday. However, proceedings could not take place due to a condolence meeting, leading the court to adjourn the case. Mohammad Ali Jauhar University is the Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan's dream project. The Mohammad Ali Jauhar Trust, which manages the university, challenged the DM's order by filing a petition before the court of Moradabad divisional commissioner Anjaneya Kumar Singh, who is also the chairman of the Rampur Development Authority. Senior advocate Junaid Ejaz, representing the Jauhar Trust, said the next hearing has been fixed for August 3. The demolition proceedings relate to 38 of the 40 buildings on the university campus, which the authorities have alleged were constructed without duly sanctioned building plans.
