LUCKNOW, June 28 -- In a bid to equip students in the state's secondary schools with job-oriented skills alongside their academic education, the Uttar Pradesh Skill Development Mission has set targets for Short-Term Skill Training (STT) under Project Praveen for the 2026-27 financial year, a spokesperson said. Kapil Dev Agrawal, the state minister (Independent Charge) for vocational education, skill development, and entrepreneurship, said the Yogi government is committed to ensuring that no youth in the state remains without employable skills. Through Project Praveen, students in government secondary schools are receiving technical and vocational training alongside their regular education. The programme covers key sectors such as IT and IT-enabled Services (IT-ITES), healthcare, electronics, apparel, beauty and wellness, and agriculture, helping enhance their employability. He mentioned that to maintain training quality, a limit of 35 trainees per batch has been fixed, enabling students to gain better practical and hands-on knowledge. An ambitious target has been set to provide skill training to a total of 36,103 trainees across the state this year. This responsibility has been entrusted to empanelled training providers (TPs) operating in government schools across various districts of Uttar Pradesh, including Agra, Bareilly, Azamgarh, Lalitpur, Varanasi, Rampur, Shahjahanpur, Jalaun, and Sonbhadra. The maximum duration of the course will be 300 hours. According to directives issued by Pulkit Khare, director of the Uttar Pradesh Skill Development Mission, all training providers must adhere to strict timelines. Training providers have been directed to complete the establishment and registration of training centres, as well as batch formation, and begin classes by July 15, 2026.
