probe begins into Doon PG medical student suicide
Dehradun, March 27 -- Dehradun police have started an investigation into the alleged suicide of a 25-year-old postgraduate medical student after her family accused the head of the ophthalmology department of a private medical college of harassment.
According to the police, the woman doctor was pursuing a Master of Surgery (MS) degree in ophthalmology at the private medical college since 2023 and had been living with her mother in the THDC Colony in Dehradun.
Pramod Sah, in-charge of Patel Nagar police station, said the incident came to light in the early hours of Wednesday when the student was found in a critical condition inside her car on Kargi Road.
"Police received information about a woman found unconscious inside a parked car around 3 am. She had to be taken out after breaking one of the windows of the vehicle. Several syringes were found lying on the seat of the car," Sah said.
She was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital by her family members where doctors declared her dead, police said.
He said in a written complaint submitted to the police, the father of the victim alleged that his daughter had been subjected to harassment by the head of the ophthalmology department at the medical college.
