Priyanka: Cleaning and cooking aren't women's work
India, June 26 -- Having been a vocal advocate for women's rights, actor Priyanka Chopra Jonas recently spoke out against traditional gender roles within households. Pointing out that in many homes, chores such as cooking, cleaning and managing daily responsibilities are still considered a woman's duty, the 43-year-old insisted that such tasks have nothing do with gender, but such mindsets reflect a deep-rooted patriarchal attitude.
"Cleaning and cooking aren't women's work. They're basic adulting. Don't confuse gender with laziness," she said in a session at Cannes Lions.
The actor shared, that even in the entertainment industry women have to make their own way to get what they deserve. "I've heard this from so many female colleagues of mine that when you want to move along, there's a glass ceiling that has been set for most women in entertain-ment. You just have to do it yourself," she said. htc...
