Prayagraj to launch floating parties, strictly veg
PRAYAGRAJ, April 2 -- Sangam city's riverfront is preparing to offer a unique blend of its spiritual heritage and emerging leisure culture. Soon, birthday parties, wedding anniversaries, intimate family gatherings and even 'Sunder Kand' recitations will glide along the Yamuna on floating jetties and Shikara-style boats.
Inspired by the waterfront experiences of Mumbai and Goa, the initiative remains firmly anchored in the cultural and religious sanctity of Sangam city, with a strict prohibition on non-vegetarian food, alcohol and tobacco on board.
As part of its Smart City Private Limited (SCPL) initiative, the Prayagraj Municipal Corporation (PMC) has partnered with Entartica Sea World to establish a new jetty at Kali Ghat in the coming months. Additional municipal commissioner Deependra Yadav said the entire experience would be festive yet respectful of the riverfront's sacred character, with complete adherence to the guidelines banning non-vegetarian food, liquor and tobacco.
The floating restaurant launched earlier this year has already set the stage for this new vision. With space for 40 guests and a purely vegetarian menu, it has quickly become a favorite among locals, out-of-state visitors, and foreigners. The private firm operating the restaurant, which also runs similar business outlets in Goa and Mumbai, has committed an annual revenue of Rs 32 lakh to PMC for managing the facility.
To add a dash of adventure, PMC has rolled out several water-sport options for visitors. From Bayliner speedboats and banana rides to catamaran cruises, pontoon boat rides, and inflatable sofa experiences, each activity is handled by experts licensed by the National Institute of Watersport (NIWS) under the ministry of tourism.
More curated packages are in the pipeline. Sunder Kand yatras, meditation sessions on the water, and short spiritual discourses are being planned as part of themed river packages. Boats will be equipped with music systems, dholaks, and decorations tailored for the occasion (including balloons for birthdays and floral arrangements for anniversaries). Pricing for the facility ranges between Rs 500 per person and Rs 5,000 for a full boat, depending on the package and negotiation.
Bookings are available offline at the floating restaurant near Kali Ghat or online via BookMyShow. To ensure safety, two six-seater rescue boats constantly patrol the area, manned by trained professionals.
"Beyond entertainment value, the initiative stands to significantly strengthen Prayagraj's tourism profile as well as generate additional revenue for the Municipal Corporation. In view of forthcoming Kumbh 2031, PMC is also planning additional tourism-oriented developments at Kali Ghat, Arail Ghat and Qila Ghat," the additional municipal commissioner added....
