Prayagraj targets record 11,000 participants at Sangam ghats
PRAYAGRAJ, June 14 -- The Sangam city is gearing up for a massive public participation drive on International Yoga Day on June 21, with around 11,000 people expected to perform yoga simultaneously on the Sangam ghats as part of a world record attempt coordinated by the Ministry of AYUSH.
The event will be preceded by a week-long series of programmes under "Yoga Week" from June 15 to 21, with yoga sessions and awareness activities planned across the district.
District magistrate Manish Kumar Verma said the mass yoga session at the Sangam is expected to be among the largest such gatherings in the country and aims to strengthen yoga as a people's movement while promoting health and wellness.
To facilitate wider participation, the ministry of AYUSH has launched an online registration facility through a missed call on WhatsApp number 18003157008. Registered participants will receive a link to join the live session and have their participation counted in the record attempt.
Reviewing preparations for the event, the DM directed officials to organise yoga programmes not only at the Sangam ghats but also at tehsil, block and district levels, besides prominent temples, parks and water bodies across Prayagraj.
The main event on June 21 at the Sangam will be attended by the district's minister-in-charge, public representatives, government officials, students, social workers and members of the business community.
The administration is also focusing on ensuring participation from rural areas. District youth welfare officer Gulshan Sharma said members of Yuva Mangal Dals and Mahila Mangal Dals have been tasked with mobilising residents in their respective gram sabhas and bringing them to mini stadiums in nearby development blocks, where Yoga Day programmes will also be held....
