Prayagraj police seize smack worth Rs 1.45 crore, nab three
PRAYAGRAJ, April 1 -- In a significant breakthrough, the Narcotics Task Force, in collaboration with Dhumanganj police, has busted a major drug trafficking network operating in the city, and arrested three individuals and seized a large quantity of smack.
The recovered drugs weigh 727 grams and are estimated to be worth approximately Rs.1.45 crore in the international market, police said on Tuesday.
According to police officials, acting on a tip-off, a raid was conducted on Tuesday at the old structure ruins of Nehru Park. During the operation, Deepak Kumar Gautam and Vivek Kumar, residents of Sulem Sarai, along with Ashish Kumar Maurya from Atarampur Nawabganj, were apprehended.
The search led to the recovery of six packets of smack, four mobile phones, and Rs.4,940 in cash. Additionally, Deepak was found in possession of an illegal pistol and two live cartridges, said DCP Kuldeep Singh Gunawat.
He said that interrogation revealed that the trafficking was being facilitated through a woman from Kareli. Deepak Kumar Gautam is already wanted in multiple drug-related cases under the NDPS Act, while Vivek Kumar has cases registered against him under serious provisions, including the Explosives Act.
