Prayagraj Gurudwara enforces dress code 'to uphold sanctity'
PRAYAGRAJ, Aug. 28 -- A Gurudwara in Naini, Prayagraj, has introduced a dress code for visitors 'to uphold the sanctity and reverence of the holy place'. The Gurudwara committee has banned entry for individuals wearing caps, short skirts, capris, half pants, torn jeans and socks. The emphasis is on wearing modest, non-revealing clothing as a mark of respect.
In a communique issued on behalf of the Gurudwara Sangat, it was stated that attire will be checked before entry. "No one will be allowed to enter wearing inappropriate clothing," said Sevadar Surendra Singh. He explained that the decision was taken to protect the sanctity and culture of the Gurudwara. A public awareness campaign regarding the new dress code will also be launched.
Sardar Patwinder Singh, another Gurudwara official, said the dress code aims to preserve the decorum, etiquette, and spiritual atmosphere of the premises. "Dress codes are followed in government offices, educational institutions, courts, and police departments. We have decided to implement it here as well to ensure decency," he said.
He added that devotees should wear clothes that fully cover the body and avoid short, tight, or revealing attire such as shorts, miniskirts, and sleeveless tops. Additionally, covering the head with a handkerchief, scarf, or dupatta before entering the main hall is mandatory....
