PRAYAGRAJ, Oct. 25 -- Tension gripped Tala village under Kunda police station limits of Pratapgarh after an injured labourer succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment in Prayagraj. The family alleged he was murdered by his co-workers and refused to cremate the body until police assured action. According to reports, 42-year-old Suresh Gaur alias Kallu had gone with three fellow labourers on the morning of October 20 to cut wood in a forest area near Mahuli Bhorai Ka Purwa under Nagar Kotwali jurisdiction of Pratapgarh. Around 5 pm, Suresh was found lying injured along the canal embankment behind Mahuli Mandi, suffering from severe head injuries. Family members rushed him to the medical college hospital, from where he was referred to Prayagraj. Despite treatment, Suresh succumbed to his injuries late evening on October 22. When the body was brought home after the post-mortem on Thursday, the grieving family accused his co-workers of murder, claiming he had injuries from a sharp weapon on his head, chest and legs. They refused to perform the last rites, alleging that Suresh was offered drinks and then attacked by his companions. On receiving information, Kandhai police reached the spot and detained one of the co-workers for questioning. The man reportedly told police that Suresh had been injured after falling from an e-rickshaw. However, the family continued to insist it was a case of murder. After police officials, including station house officer Gulabchand Sonkar and Nagar Kotwali police station SHO Neeraj Yadav, assured them of a thorough investigation based on the post-mortem report, the family agreed to cremate the body in a village orchard. Suresh leaves behind his wife Sugna, a daughter, and two sons. SHO Neeraj Yadav said preliminary findings suggest the injuries were consistent with a fall, but further inquiry is underway following the family's written complaint....
