Power supply reaches Nainital's remote area
Haldwani, March 31 -- A remote hamlet (tok) in Nainital district has finally been lit up as electricity reached it nearly 78 years after the country's independence, bringing relief and joy to residents who had lived for decades without power supply.
Villagers of Gwal Dev tok under Goriya Dev gram panchayat, had been relying on kerosene lamps and other traditional sources of light due to the absence of electricity. The lack of basic infrastructure had made daily life difficult, particularly for children and elderly residents. Former state secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party Rakesh Nainwal, said that despite decades of development across the country, the hamlet located near the well-known tourist destination of Nainital had remained deprived of electricity for years.
"Even after 78 years of independence, electricity had not reached Gwal Dev. At a time when the country is moving toward advanced digital connectivity and the 5G era, this hamlet was still living without electricity.
He said villagers had repeatedly demanded the installation of electricity poles and power lines in the area. He subsequently raised the issue with MP from Nainital-Udham Singh Nagar Ajay Bhatt, who sanctioned funds for the project and paved the way for installing electricity poles and laying power lines in the remote hamlet....
