Power complaints cross 18.5 lakh as outages strain UP network
Lucknow, June 13 -- More than 18.5 lakh consumer complaints have been recorded across Uttar Pradesh's major power distribution companies, underscoring mounting pressure on the state's electricity network amid rising demand, overloaded transformers and frequent outages.
Official figures show that Madhyanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited (MVVNL) received 6,33,102 complaints, followed by Paschimanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited (PVVNL) with 4,04,173, Dakshinanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited (DVVNL) with 3,59,501, Purvanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited (PUVVNL) with 3,38,104 and Kanpur Electricity Supply Company (KESCO) with 1,20,833 complaints. Together, the utilities recorded 18,55,713 complaints.
In Lucknow, power infrastructure is facing increasing strain, with transformers operating near or beyond safe capacity levels.
The Lucknow Electricity Supply Administration (LESA) has reportedly implemented load rostering at around 35 substations, leading to interruptions ranging from 35 minutes to an hour during peak demand.
Residents in several localities, including Faizullahganj, Yaseenganj, Azad Nagar, Tehseenganj, Sadatganj, Thakurganj, Dubagga, Mari Mata Mandir, Gosainganj, Nagram, Kakori, Raheemabad, Malihabad, Bakshi Ka Talab, Itaunja, and Mohanlalganj, have been experiencing near-daily power cuts linked to this rostering practice.
