Poster at Mrt police stn flags alleged broker network, inquiry ordered
MEERUT, May 13 -- A poster banning the entry of brokers at the Lisadi Gate Police Station has put the spotlight on alleged illegal collections in Meerut, with police probing claims that middlemen allegedly took lakhs of rupees from a murder accused's family by offering to "manage" police action.
The controversy began after the poster briefly appeared at the police station and was later removed. However, its image circulated widely on social media, drawing public attention and prompting senior police officials to order an inquiry.
Police sources said the poster was reportedly put up on the instructions of Dalveer Singh, SHO, following repeated complaints about broker activity in and around the police station.
The matter is linked to the recent murder of Aman in the Lisadi Gate area. Police had earlier arrested the main accused, Sufiyan, after an encounter and later sent him to jail.
According to allegations, brokers approached the accused's family claiming they could arrange protection from a possible police encounter and facilitate a surrender before authorities. In return, they allegedly collected lakhs of rupees.
After the issue came to the notice of Avinash Pandey, SSP, immediate probe was ordered. The inquiry has been assigned to Vinayak Gopal Bhonsle, SP (City), who is investigating the alleged network of middlemen operating around police station.
Officials said probe will focus on identifying those involved in alleged illegal recovery operation and examining whether the brokers had any links with police personnel or local criminal networks.
Although the poster was later removed, police officials said action would be taken against middlemen found interfering in investigations or exploiting families linked to criminal cases. htc...
