LUCKNOW, Sept. 18 -- Polytechnic crossing could soon get an additional lane towards Lekhraj after a resident suggested reducing the size of the traffic island and using the freed-up road space for traffic movement. The suggestion came through Lucknow traffic police's citizen drive, 'Sahbhagita' initiative, which asks residents to identify recurring traffic or road-safety problems and scan a QR code to submit their ideas through a Google Form. Three days into the initiative, residents had submitted 31 suggestions, prompting traffic officials to conduct regular field inspections and examine the feasibility of the proposals. DCP Traffic Raveena Tyagi inspected the Polytechnic crossing on Thursday and directed officials to implement the proposal. "I visited the area and was instructed to comply with the same. It seemed workable and might resolve some issues," Tyagi told HT. The suggestion pointed out that the existing traffic island occupies road space that could potentially be used to create another lane, helping vehicles clear the junction faster. "A suggestion has been received regarding the Polytechnic intersection: if the traffic island on the road leading from the Polytechnic intersection towards Lekhraj were slightly reduced in size, it might be possible to create additional lane space, thereby allowing traffic to clear more quickly," Tyagi said. Residents have also submitted suggestions concerning other traffic and road-safety issues. One proposal sought removal of the 1090 roundabout, while others flagged bottlenecks, encroachments and junction-design problems along the Ayodhya Road stretch. On the first day of the drive, Tyagi and her team inspected the Ayodhya Road corridor, including the BMW cut and CMS cut towards the Barabanki border, after residents submitted detailed suggestions about the stretch.
