Police avert mishap as CNG truck drags bike for two km
LUCKNOW, July 13 -- A major accident was averted in Lucknow after traffic police intercepted a truck allegedly carrying CNG cylinders that dragged a motorcycle for nearly two kilometres after a collision on Kanpur Road. The driver was allegedly under the influence of alcohol and was taken into custody.
The incident took place near Scooter India crossing in Sarojininagar around 10 pm on Saturday. Police said the truck, bearing registration number UP32 TN 9240, allegedly hit a motorcycle ridden by Shivansh Mishra, a resident of Banthra who works at a private company in Hazratganj.
Mishra told police he had stopped by the roadside to drink water while returning home from work. As he was putting the bottle back into his bag, the truck allegedly rammed his motorcycle from behind.
The impact lodged the motorcycle beneath the front portion of the truck, while Mishra fell to the roadside and escaped with minor injuries. The driver allegedly continued towards Banthra without stopping, dragging the motorcycle along the road.
According to eyewitnesses, the motorcycle scraped against the road, throwing continuous sparks. As the truck was carrying several CNG cylinders, there was a risk of fire or explosion if leaked gas had ignited.
Traffic police personnel travelling in a jeep behind the truck repeatedly signalled the driver to stop, but he allegedly ignored them. The police eventually overtook the vehicle and forced it to halt near Daroga Khera, preventing a potentially serious accident.
Police said the driver appeared to be under the influence of alcohol. He was detained along with the truck and handed over to Sarojininagar police.
On Mishra's complaint, police took the driver, identified as Sajjan, a resident of Ashakhera village under Sohramau police station in Unnao district, into custody.htc...
