LUCKNOW, Sept. 2 -- The investigation into the abduction and murder of Lucknow property dealer Dhirendra Pratap Singh has thrown up a possible money trail, with police saying that drivers were offered money to execute the killing allegedly at the behest of a land mafia linked to a dispute in Bangarmau, Unnao. The Sushant Golf City police on Tuesday arrested 24-year-old Omkar Sahu, the second alleged accomplice to be arrested in the case. He was produced before a court and sent to judicial custody. "Police recovered a key to Singh's Fortuner car, Rs.1,466 in cash and a mobile phone from Sahu. Investigators are examining the recovery of the vehicle key as they reconstruct the sequence of Singh's abduction and murder," said ADCP South Vasanth Rallapalli. According to investigators, the accused allegedly became part of the conspiracy for money. The probe so far suggests that a suspected land mafia offered money to drivers to carry out the killing, with the Bangarmau land dispute emerging as a possible motive behind the crime. The police are now trying to establish the complete money trail - including who offered the money, how much was promised and who was behind the alleged contract to kill Singh. Sahu was arrested on the basis of CCTV footage, technical and manual evidence and information gathered through local intelligence, police said.
