LUCKNOW, July 28 -- Nearly five months after a proxy candidate was caught appearing in the Trained Graduate Teacher (TGT) examination at an examination centre in Lucknow, the Hussainganj police have arrested the alleged kingpin of the solver gang that orchestrated the impersonation. The accused, identified as Rishikesh Singh (38), a resident of Sultanpur district, was arrested on July 26, police said on Monday. According to a police statement, the case dates back to March 3, 2026, when officials at Bappa Sree Narayan Vocational Girls' Inter College, an examination centre in Lucknow, detected that a person was writing the TGT examination in place of the actual candidate, Vijay Pratap Singh. The impersonator had used forged documents, including a fake Aadhaar card, to gain entry into the examination hall. The proxy candidate, Rajesh Pratap Singh, was arrested on the spot and sent to judicial custody. A case was registered at Hussainganj police station under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Uttar Pradesh Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Ordinance, 2024. Police alleged that Rishikesh Singh had hired Rajesh Pratap Singh for Rs.15 lakh to appear in the examination on behalf of the genuine candidate. Of the agreed amount, Rs.7 lakh was transferred to the proxy candidate through bank transactions. Investigators also alleged that forged identity documents, including a fake Aadhaar card, were arranged to facilitate the impersonation. Police said Rishikesh Singh fled after abandoning his vehicle on the day of the incident and had been evading arrest since then. He was eventually traced and apprehended with the assistance of the surveillance cell and local intelligence. The accused was produced before a court after his arrest.
