Police arrest accused in Chandauli murder case
VARANASI, June 9 -- Police on Monday arrested Sunil Yadav in connection with the murder of 34-year-old Bechai alias Brijesh Yadav in Jogiya Kala village under the Shikarganj police outpost of Chakiya police station area in Chandauli.
Acting on information provided by the accused, police recovered the iron axe allegedly used in the murder. Following the successful detection of the case, Superintendent of Police Akash Patel announced a cash reward of Rs.25,000 for the police team.
The incident took place on the intervening night of June 5 and 6. Bechai was sleeping on a cot outside his house when he was attacked.
A case under section 103(1) (murder) was registered against an unidentified assailant. During the investigation, police found that the accused allegedly had a romantic relationship with the victim's wife for the past four to five years.
Police said the affair had been a frequent source of conflict between the couple. About a week before the incident, the victim's wife had left home after a dispute and moved to her parents' house. Police said Bechai had publicly exposed Sunil, a prospective village pradhan candidate, damaging his reputation. Seeking revenge, Sunil allegedly killed Bechai with an axe, stuffed a cloth into his mouth, buried the weapon in his field and returned there.
