AGRA, July 19 -- One of the accused in the 1999 robbery and murder of two policemen, carrying a reward of Rs.50,000, has been arrested by Agra police after remaining absconding for 27 years. Police said he had been living in Bhopal under a false identity, while his relatives had spread the claim that he was dead.
Deputy commissioner of police, Agra West, Aditya said during a media briefing here on Saturday that the accused, whose real name is Bhoora, had assumed the identity of Jameel alias Farooq and had been living in Bhopal, from where he was arrested.
"The accused, along with his aides Dhadu, Ramesh and two others, was involved in the murder of two policemen and the looting of their rifles in Nagla Kamal area of Agra in 1999. While the other accused were arrested by Kheragarh police, Bhoora remained absconding for 27 years," said the DCP.
"The accused's family claimed that he was dead. However, police continued searching for him, and the reward on his arrest was increased to Rs.50,000. He was finally arrested from Sehore Road in Bhopal," the DCP said. "Police will seek the accused's custody remand to ascertain whether he was involved in any other crimes during the 27 years he remained absconding," DCP added....
