PMFBY, Weather-Based Crop insurance cleared for Kharif, Rabi
LUCKNOW, Aug. 5 -- The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet on Tuesday approved the implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) and the Restructured Weather Based Crop Insurance Scheme (RWBCIS) for Kharif 2026 and Rabi 2026-27 to provide financial protection to farmers against crop losses caused by natural calamities, pests and diseases.
The decision provides insurance coverage for major crops at the gram panchayat level under PMFBY across all districts, while the weather-based scheme will cover notified horticultural crops in selected districts against adverse weather conditions, including deficient or excess rainfall, temperature, humidity and strong winds. Farmers' premium has been capped at 2% of the sum insured for Kharif crops, 1.5% for Rabi crops and 5% for annual commercial and horticultural crops. The remaining premium will be shared equally by the Centre and the state government.
Farmers can enrol under PMFBY till July 31 for Kharif and December 31 for Rabi, while enrolment under the weather-based scheme will remain open until a day before the risk period begins....
