Plainclothes cops arrest wanted man from Gomti Nagar outlet
LUCKNOW, April 2 -- Drama unfolded at Food Valley on Tuesday night when a man dining with his wife and children was suddenly approached by four men. Eyewitnesses said the men claimed to be police personnel and tried to detain him.
The man resisted, raising an alarm, while his family pleaded with the men to let him go, triggering chaos at the spot. A crowd gathered and several bystanders recorded videos, questioning the identity of the men and the reason for the forceful detention.
A video of the incident went viral on social media on Wednesday.
Police later confirmed through a statement that the operation was carried out by a team from Thakurganj police station.
Officials said the incident appeared chaotic due to the accused resisting arrest in a public place, but clarified that it was a lawful police action.
Brij Narayan Singh, ACP, Gomti Nagar, said the arrest was part of a planned operation to apprehend the accused, who had been evading police action.
According to an official statement by Lucknow police, the accused Islam alias Olu, 30, a resident of Balaganj, was wanted in a case of extortion and firing registered earlier this year.
An FIR was registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Criminal Law Amendment Act against the accused and others.
Police officials also described the accused as a habitual offender, with over 10 criminal cases registered against him in Lucknow and other districts....
