Pipeline leak causes section of road to cave in near hosp
LUCKNOW, Sept. 13 -- A leaking water pipeline caused a section of a road to cave-in near a private hospital in Mahanagar on Saturday. The cave-in occurred close to the CM Grid alignment and created a pit nearly 1.5 feet wide and four feet deep.
Lucknow Municipal Corporation executive engineer Atul Mishra said the department traced the cave-in to leakage from an underground water pipeline. Officials subsequently repaired the damaged line and addressed the affected portion of the road.
Jalkal officials, including general manager Kuldeep Singh, remained unavailable for comment on the age and condition of the pipeline and whether the department had conducted any inspection of the network in the area.
The latest incident adds to concerns over repeated road cave-ins in the city, highlighting how leakages from old underground pipelines can weaken the soil beneath roads....
