Pink power and vintage charm: City hits the road
India, Oct. 5 -- Over 500 women turned Lucknow's streets into a vibrant sea of pink this Sunday for SGPGI's 'Pink Wave-2026' walkathon. Marching from the 1090 Women Power Line intersection through Food Valley and Samta Mulak, the campaign rallied the city for breast cancer awareness.
The event's highlight was the 'Drive the Message Through Lucknow' vintage car rally. A 1939 Chevrolet Master Deluxe, famously seen in Gadar, was the centre of attraction. Owner Keshav Mathur recalls, "My father gifted me this car on my 21st birthday. He bought it from the Raja of Salempur."
Nitin, who was at the venue with his 75-year-old Morris, shared the effort it takes to maintain these vintage beauties, says, "We have to look after it like an elderly family member. The biggest challenge is that the spare parts simply aren't available in India. if there is a vital part that can't be fabricated here, we have to import."
Many experts who took part in the event, emphasised the importance of self examinations and screenings to detect breast cancer early. HR professional Ritu Kapoor adds, "My group of friends and I joined this rally to show our support. We want to tell those battling cancer: don't be afraid.
