Meerut, Aug. 31 -- A 38-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death with sticks following a minor altercation in Sisaiya village under the Barkhera police station area of Pilibhit district on Saturday evening. Several members of his family, including women, his niece and two minor girls, were also injured when they allegedly tried to intervene and rescue him. The incident has triggered tension in the village, prompting police to deploy personnel as a precautionary measure. According to the deceased's sister, Sanjay Kumar alias Chhote Lal was travelling on his motorcycle when he had a verbal altercation near the house of a man identified as Kanhai Lal. Following the argument, the accused allegedly took away Sanjay's motorcycle and assaulted him. Later, Sanjay returned to the spot with family members, including women, to ask for his motorcycle back. The male members of the family were reportedly absent at the time. The situation allegedly escalated when the accused became aggressive and dragged Sanjay inside the house, where he was brutally beaten with sticks. When the women and children accompanying him attempted to intervene, they too were allegedly attacked. Sanjay was eventually rescued after other villagers gathered at the spot. His condition was critical by then. Family members rushed him to a hospital, but he died on the way. Villagers have alleged that there was a delay in the arrival of police after they contacted the Dial 112 emergency service. They claimed that the delay enabled the accused to flee from the area. Police said a preliminary inquiry indicated that alcohol intoxication was behind the dispute. On the basis of a complaint filed by Sanjay's wife, a case has been registered against five named accused.
