Phase 2 of Census from Dec 1; caste enumeration included
LUCKNOW, Oct. 23 -- The second phase of Census 2027, encompassing population and caste enumeration, is set to roll out across Uttar Pradesh from December 1 to January 4, 2027. The state will deploy approximately 5.60 lakh enumerators and supervisors to execute the drive.
Enumerators will conduct door-to-door visits to collect information based on a government-notified 40-question survey. For the first time since the 1931 census, the survey will capture caste demographics. Under Question 10, enumerators will record the respondent's declared caste in an open-ended format, alongside a specific column for SC/ST status.
The comprehensive questionnaire will also gather data on religion, parental particulars, education and occupation. In addition, respondents will be asked to detail their Covid-19 vaccination locations, number of bank accounts, passport numbers and driving licenses. Sharing Aadhaar, voter ID, and mobile numbers will remain voluntary. The administrative unit in which the population enumeration work will be carried out includes 75 districts, 17 municipal corporations, 200 nagar palika parishads, 545 nagar panchayats, 350 tehsils, 783 statutory towns, 14,983 wards, 1,04,004 villages and 4.80 lakh enumeration blocks, said Sheetal Verma, director and chief principal Census officer, UP, at a press conference on Thursday. From November 16 to 30, citizens can complete self enumeration. The enumeration of homeless population will be done on January 4, 2027, after sunset, she said. htc...
