LUCKNOW, Aug. 10 -- The department of pulmonary and critical care Medicine at King George's Medical University (KGMU) concluded its two-day Pulmonary Hypertension (PH) Summit on Sunday, wrapping up the event with three specialized hands-on workshops designed to enhance clinical skills in diagnosis and management. The summit, held from August 8, drew experts from across India and abroad under the theme "Advancing Diagnosis, Therapeutics and Outcomes". The workshops covered echocardiography, right heart catheterisation and cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET). The echocardiography workshop, led by Dr Amit Anand and his team, had 30 participants and focused on pulmonary hypertension assessment and right-heart function, stated a press release shared with the media. The right heart catheterisation workshop, conducted by Prof Ved Prakash and his team, was attended by 28 participants and provided training in invasive haemodynamic assessment and confirmation of PH. The CPET workshop, led by Dr Basha J Khan and his team, had around 34 participants and focused on assessing exercise capacity and functional status in PH patients, it stated. Highlighting the urgency of early intervention, Prof Ved Prakash noted that pulmonary hypertension is frequently diagnosed at an advanced stage. "Breathlessness may be the first warning sign, and early detection can allow timely treatment," he said, adding that advanced cases might eventually necessitate lung or heart-lung transplantation....
