PGI docs treat complex abdominal gunshot injury to Gonda man
LUCKNOW, Aug. 30 -- A multidisciplinary trauma team at the Apex Trauma Centre, Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS), successfully treated a man from Gonda who sustained multiple gunshot injuries following an alleged land dispute.
Abhay Pandey, son of Raj Kumar Pandey, was shot on August 9 in Khargopur village near Nawabganj. He was subsequently brought to SGPGIMS, where doctors performed definitive surgery on August 11. According to a press release issued on Saturday, surgeons found that bullets had pierced his stomach, duodenum and caecum, with nearly one litre of blood collected in his abdominal cavity. Following intensive postoperative and multidisciplinary care, Pandey made a satisfactory recovery and was discharged on August 25, the release stated.
The surgery was led by Prof Amit Kumar Singh, additional chief and trauma surgeon, along with Dr Varun Gupta and Dr Aditya Singh, senior residents in trauma surgery.
