Patriotic fervour marks I-Day at AMU
Agra, Aug. 17 -- The 79th Independence Day of India was celebrated at the Aligarh Muslim University with traditional gaiety and patriotic fervour on Friday. Led by the vice-chancellor, prof Naima Khatoon, AMU extended wishes to all Indians across the globe and expressed commitment to value freedom even more in Naya Bharat.
In her address, after hoisting the national flag at the historic building of Strachey Hall, prof Khatoon pointed out, "The theme of this year's Independence Day, 'Naya Bharat,' is more than a slogan. It is a vision that calls us to shed the burdens of complacency, division, and smallness, and to carry forward excellence, unity, and the courage to dream big."
She said that renewal does not mean abandoning our roots; it means deepening them while reaching for the skies. She recalled how Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, in the aftermath of colonial rule, envisioned an institution that would awaken intellect, nurture character, and serve society, and stressed that AMU's Tehzib - respect for diversity, dialogue over discord, pursuit of knowledge with humility, and blending of culture with progress, remains the guiding light for its journey into the future.
She urged the studens to become "foot soldiers of Naya Bharat" who use technology to solve real problems, innovate for public benefit, and carry forward AMU's name as a mark of quality, integrity, and environmental responsibility
