Partial relief for commuters as 40 city buses resume ops
LUCKNOW, June 1 -- After being off the road for two days since Friday, and affecting nearly 15,000 daily commuters across 22 city routes, as many as 40 electric city buses resumed operations on select routes on Sunday, bringing partial relief to people.
However, a section of the drivers and conductors of Lucknow City Transport Services Limited (LCTSL) continued their strike and staged protest at the Dubagga depot over pending salaries and other demands.
The partial restoration of services came as transport authorities intensified efforts to persuade protesting employees to return to work.
The number of operational buses remained far below normal levels, resulting in longer waiting times and overcrowding in the available vehicles. Many daily commuters welcomed the return of some buses but said normal services were still far from being restored. htc...
