MUMBAI, Sept. 27 -- Protesting students of IIT-Bombay and the parents of the 20-year-old student who died by suicide last week have demanded that the committee set up to investigate his death be dissolved and replaced with an independent external body, citing impartiality. In an Instagram post on Saturday, the students alleged that some committee members had publicly supported former dean of student affairs Prof Suryanarayana Doolla even before the inquiry was completed, "raising clear bias concerns". The students also sought the inclusion of at least two people from among former Planning Commission member Bhalchandra Mungekar, journalist P Sainath, activist Ram Puniyani and academic Sukhadeo Thorat in the new committee. They also sought the resignation of IIT-B director Shireesh Kedare and the suspension of Prof Doolla until the probe is complete. The deceased student's parents, in a video released on social media on Friday, demanded for an external investigation committee and suspension of Prof Doolla until the inquiry is completed.
