PRAYAGRAJ, Sept. 13 -- An overloaded Vikram auto-rickshaw carrying school children overturned near Chalauli turn in the Pipri police station area of Pratapgarh on Saturday afternoon. Four children were injured in the accident. Two of them sustained critical injuries and were referred to a hospital in Prayagraj for advanced treatment. According to reports, the vehicle was carrying children home from a school in Manauri Bazaar after classes had ended. Witnesses said the auto-rickshaw was carrying far more passengers than its permitted capacity. As it approached Chalauli turn, the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle, causing it to overturn on the roadside. Hearing the children's cries, local residents rushed to the spot and rescued those trapped inside the vehicle. The injured students were immediately taken to the Chail Community Health Centre (CHC) for treatment. The injured have been identified as Piyush, Ritu, Ayush and Shreya. After providing first aid, doctors referred Piyush and Ritu to Prayagraj because of the seriousness of their injuries. Both are currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital. Local residents said nearly 18 children were travelling in the vehicle at the time of the accident. Following the mishap, a large number of parents and relatives rushed to the Chail CHC. Police reached the scene soon after receiving information about the accident and began an investigation.
