Over Rs.8 cr to be spent on drain cleaning ahead of monsoon in Prayagraj
Prayagraj, June 4 -- With the monsoon approaching, the Prayagraj Municipal Corporation (PMC) has almost completed its annual drain-cleaning exercise aimed at preventing waterlogging in the city.
The drive, which began in April, covered more than 700 small and large drains.
Around 2,769 sanitation workers were deployed, while machines, including robotic equipment, were used to clean major drains and sewer channels.
Mayor Umesh Chandra Ganesh Kesarwani said the exercise is undertaken every year before the monsoon to ensure smooth drainage of rainwater. Large drains were cleaned using machines, while workers manually cleared smaller ones.
The civic body is expected to spend over Rs.8 crore on the two-month campaign, which is now in its final phase.
Areas such as Allapur, Sohbatiyabagh, Tagore Town, Georgetown, Salori, Alopibagh, Bairahana, Bai Ka Bagh and Kydganj, which often face waterlogging during heavy rain, are likely to benefit from the exercise. Officials said the remaining work in a few localities would be completed shortly....
