LUCKNOW, June 22 -- More than 22,000 people took part in mass yoga sessions organised by the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) across its parks on Sunday, transforming the city's green spaces into vibrant centres of wellness and community participation on the occasion of International Yoga Day, according to an LDA press release. The highest participation was recorded at Janeshwar Mishra Park and Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Park, where more than 14,000 participants performed yoga under the guidance of trained instructors. An additional 8,500 participants joined yoga sessions organised at parks in Basant Kunj, Kanpur Road, Chowk, Hazratganj, Qaiserbagh and other parts of city. Union minister of state BL Verma attended the main programme at Janeshwar Mishra Park as the chief guest. Uttar Pradesh chief secretary SP Goyal, principal secretary M Devaraj and BJP state vice-president Tryambak Tripathi were also among those who participated in the event. Addressing the gathering, Verma described yoga as an invaluable part of India's ancient heritage and urged people to incorporate it into their daily lives to promote physical fitness and mental well-being. LDA vice-chairman Prathamesh Kumar said the authority ensured elaborate arrangements and deployed officials and staff to oversee the smooth conduct of events. Women, youths, senior citizens, students, resident welfare associations, and members of various social organisations participated in large numbers.
