KANPUR, Aug. 31 -- Around 1,000 people were rescued from flood-hit areas of Chitrakoot in UP and Madhya Pradesh as SDRF and NDRF teams continued overnight operations after the Mandakini river inundated low-lying areas and damaged homes, roads and bridges. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is monitoring the situation, officials said on Sunday. The Mandakini, which crossed the danger mark on Saturday, fell below it on Sunday afternoon. The Indian Air Force on Saturday rescued two elderly men stranded amid rising floodwaters and strong currents in Chitrakoot after an SDRF boat rescue became difficult.
