New Delhi, Aug. 5 -- The Opposition has decided to sharpen its focus on two key demands - accountability from Union home minister Amit Shah over the use of pellet guns on students, and a debate on the alleged Ram Mandir donation theft - even as the government continued to push through bills amid repeated disruptions in Parliament. At a meeting on Tuesday morning, Opposition leaders also agreed that if they got an opportunity to speak during debates on bills, they would use it to press for Shah's presence in the House. The stance reduces the chances of a return to normal proceedings and underscores the Opposition's determination to continue its protest. Deputy leader of the Congress, Gaurav Gogoi, said on Tuesday, "It looks settled that the BJP want to shield home minister Amit Shah from any form of accountability in Parliament. He has been missing ever since Rahul Gandhi demanded his explanation. There does not seem to be any movement from the BJP to discuss the mismanagement of the Ayodhya Ram Mandir Trust." Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha floor leader Derek O'Brien said, "All parties decided on Tuesday that we will seek home minister Amit Shah's accountability over the violence and use of pellet guns on students. We will also raise the Ram Mandir donation theft issue both inside and outside Parliament. If we get an opportunity to speak on a bill, we will use that to demand that Shah must come to the House." Asked whether the government gained leverage by passing bills amid the din while the Opposition failed to register its objections, O'Brien said, "People will judge them. Bills should not be passed in the din. Every day the Opposition is registering its presence through its protests." The Opposition leaders staged protests outside Parliament over the Ram Mandir donation theft issue and repeatedly disrupted the House, demanding Shah's accountability. The latest demonstrations were backed firmly by smaller parties that are usually keen to participate in debates. "All big parties - the Congress, Samajwadi Party, Trinamool and Shiv Sena UBT - are in favour of continuing protests. We, the smaller parties, didn't say anything in the meeting on Tuesday morning, but we indirectly supported the stand of the Opposition," said NK Premachandran, RSP MP....
